Sutil to race in Spanish GP despite pending criminal complaint
May 18th, 2011 - 6:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 18 (IANS) Force India Formula One team has confirmed its driver Adrian Sutil’s participation for this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix despite Renault owner Eric Lux deciding to file a criminal complaint against the German for alleged ‘physical assault’ during the China race last month.
Force India, in a statement, said they are looking into what went wrong in China but will go ahead with its regular driver line-up.
“Force India Formula One Team is aware of the statements made by both its driver, Adrian Sutil, and Mr. Eric Lux of Genii Capital, pertaining to events following the Chinese Grand Prix.
“Although the team continues to monitor the situation, it remains fully committed to its driver line-up at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix,” said a Force India statement.
Renault owner Eric Lux earlier decided to file a criminal complaint against Sutil for “physical assault and grievous bodily harm” during an altercation at a Shanghai nightclub on the night of the Chinese Grand Prix.
Lux’s lawyer released a statement Monday confirming his intentions.
“In view of the recent events which occurred in Shanghai on 17 April, Mr Eric Lux has decided to file a criminal complaint against Mr Adrian Sutil for physical assault and grievous bodily harm,” the statement said.
“As soon as the complaint is registered, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the team Force India will be notified.
“Furthermore, please note that Mr Eric Lux does not exclude commencing an action against any other persons involved in this matter.”
Those ‘other persons’ could include Lewis Hamilton who was present at the time of altercation, but is said to have no involvement in the attack.
According to reports, Sutil reportedly broke a champagne glass and attacked Lux, who suffered cuts to his neck. The incident took place in a Shanghai nightclub.
