Surrey signs fast bowler Dirk Nannes
May 27th, 2011 - 8:07 pm ICT by IANSSydney, May 27 (IANS) Australian pace bowler Dirk Nannes has joined Surrey for this season’s English domestic Twenty20 tournament, the county announced Thursday.
Nannes, 35, with 134 wickets is the leading-wicket taker in all Twenty20 matches,
Nannes has replaced fellow Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait. The left-arm fast bowler, has also played county cricket for Middlesex as well as in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament. He was a member of the Australia side that lost the 2010 World Twenty20 final to England in Barbados.
Nannes, who previously represented the Netherlands, is now settled in England.
“I’m really excited to be playing for a big club like the Surrey Lions at such a historic ground,” Nannes, whose first match for Surrey is on June 2, was quoted as saying in Sydney Morning Herald.
“I’ve always enjoyed my time playing in England - and the Friends Life T20 throws up a very different challenge to other competitions around the world.
Surrey cricket manager Chris Adams added: “Signing a player of Dirk Nannes’ undoubted skill and ability is a great boost to our Friends Life t20 campaign.
“So far this season we have a 100 per cent record in one-day cricket and securing the leading wicket taker in the history of this format - at such short notice - will give us a great chance in this competition.”
