New Delhi, April 26 (IANS) Chennai Super Kings Saturday became the first team in the IPL to register three successive wins. Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils are the only two teams to remain undefeated so far. Chennai Super Kings’ nine-wicket triumph is their biggest so far in the IPL, emulating Delhi Daredevils’ victory-margin in terms of wickets. Delhi Daredevils, in fact, have recorded both their wins by nine wickets.
The following are the other statistical highlights of the day:
Jacob Oram (3/32) produced his career-best bowling performance in Twenty20. He is the first bowler from Chennai Super Kings and the sixth overall to bag three wickets in an innings in the IPL, joining Ajit Agarkar, Murali Kartik, Shane Warne, Shahid Afridi and Harbhajan Singh.
Brendon McCullum has reclaimed his postion as the leading run-getter in the IPL - 187 at an average of 93.50, including one century at a strike rate of 207.77.
Matthew Hayden’s tally of 176 runs at an average of 88.00, including two fifties in three games, at a strike rate of 158.55, is the next best, followed by Sangakkara’s tally of 168 runs at an average of 56.00 (SR 173.19), including two fifties in 3 matches.
With Mohammad Hafeez’s catch, Joginder Sharma became the first fielder to take four catches overall in the IPL.
Parthiv Patel and Matthew Hayden became the first left-handed opening pair to put on a 50-plus partnership in the IPL, eclipsing their own record of 34 against Mumbai Indians on April 23.
The aforesaid stand, in fact, is the best by any opening pair in the IPL, obliterating the 61 between Sourav Ganguly and Brendon McCullum for Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Bangalore Royal Challengers at Bangalore on April 18.
Ricky Ponting has averaged just 6.66 in 3 games - 20 runs at a strike rate of 90.90.
Matthew Hayden became the second batsman after Kumar Sangakkara to post two 50-plus in the IPL. Hayden’s highest in this competition is 81 off 46 balls against Mumbai Indians at Chepauk on April 23.
Hayden’s 70 not out is his sixth fifty in Twenty20.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (43 not out) registered his highest score in the IPL.
McCullum became the first batsman to hit 15 sixes in the IPL.
