supergWhistler, British Columbia, Feb 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Super G Downhill women’s final which took place on Saturday morning, brought a gold medal for Austria’s Andrea Fischbacher. American Lindsey Vonn had to negotiate with a bronze as she finished third after Slovenia’s Tina Maze provided her country with the first silver medal in this year’s Olympic Winter Games.

The game was held at the Whistler Mountain. The Downhill gold medal winner Lindsey Vonn was sure of her win, but as the sun rose, the icy game needed some different tricks altogether to win which was put forward by Andrea Fischbacher. The game needed to carry the speed from the beginning till the end. Lindsey Vonn took the lead at the beginning of the game but towards the end she slowed by half second which provided the Austrian Andrea Fischbacher with a lead who was just two players behind. It took no time for the silver medal to pass on to Tina Maze who sped to the victory point past Lindsey Vonn. Andrea Fischbacher showed some brilliant strategy during the game. It seemed as if she knew what the mountain demanded and provided a brilliant lead at the Franz’s Run Course and completed the course at 1:20.14. Tina Maze got hold of the silver with her astounding run of 1:20.63 which left behind America’s Lindsey Vonn who managed it within 1:20.88 seconds.

After the win, Andrea Fischbacher said that she was confident that this time she would beat the last gold medal winner Lindsey Vonn. She said that everything seemed perfect and that according to her she skied really fast. On the other hand, Lindsey Vonn said that she had really given a chase and skied fast but slowed down a little at the end which cost her dearly.
