Suarez hat-trick in Uruguay’s Olympic warm-up win
July 12th, 2012 - 12:36 pm ICT by IANSRio de Janeiro, July 12 (IANS) Liverpool striker Luis Suarez scored three goals and Napoli’s Edinson Cavini two as Uruguay stepped up its Olympic preparations with a 6-4 victory over Chile.
In a game full of attacking flair but lacking defensive quality, Chile took a 2-0 lead after goals from Angelo Henriquez and Matias Campos at the Estadio Burgueno in Maldonado, 140km from Montevideo, Wednesday, reports Xinhua.
But Suarez and Cavani, who have been selected alongside Palermo’s Arevalo Rios as Uruguay’s three over-23 players for London, turned the match in their favour with a five-goal burst.
Sebastian Ubilla added two more for Chile but Abel Hernandez netted Uruguay’s sixth to seal victory for Oscar Tabarez’s team in its last match before departing for London.
Uruguay, who won the Olympic gold medal in 1924 and 1928, has been drawn in Group A with the United Arab Emirates, Senegal and Britain.
