Struggling Liverpool on the verge of meltdown: Former manager

London, Dec 11(ANI): Former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness, who knows all about the price of failure at Anfield, has warned that the club is on the verge of a meltdown.
Liverpool is struggling these days after being dumped into the backwaters of the Europa League, and just three wins in their last 14 matches. The Reds even suffered the ultimate indignity of being relegated to the last game on Match of the Day at the weekend - the slot of shame.
“What I meant when I made the meltdown comments, is that the club is in a seriously dangerous position financially because the Europa League means nothing to Liverpool,” The Mirror quoted Souness, as saying.
“If you don’t play in the Champions League then the best players don’t want to know you, the banks are on your back looking for a different revenue stream and you need millions to just stand still. It is a truly frightening time for their supporters,” he added.
However, skipper Steven Gerrard believes that things will rapidly improve now that he, Fernando Torres, Alberto Aquilani and Glen Johnson are fit and firing again after a nightmare run of injuries.
“We have to turn the corner quickly, we know that - we will be right up for the Arsenal game because we know it will be massive. We realise that if we can get three points on Sunday and take it into the Wigan game in midweek, I’m sure we can turn that corner and get ourselves into a better position,” Gerrard said.
“It is a question of improving, quickly, and getting some results on the board. It’s very disappointing to lose to Fiorentina because we had at least been on a six-match unbeaten run and we wanted to take that into the Arsenal game, because we know how important that is,” he added.
He further said that they want to play in the Champions League, and the players all know how important financially it is for the club. (ANI)
