Struggling Aussies call on Tait to halt relentless English ODI march
June 26th, 2010 - 2:01 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Jun 26 (ANI): The Australian team which is struggling in the ongoing ODI series against England, has decided to boost its bowling attack by calling up pacer Shaun Tait for the first time in 16 months.
Australia is trailing 0-2 against England in the ongoing five match ODI series.
Tait, the star of the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, said he was looking to unsettle the England batsmen, who have had a fairly easy outing in the opening two games in Southampton and Cardiff.
“I hope so, hopefully there are a couple of overs in there that I can make an impact and get a couple of early wickets,” FOX Sports quoted Tait, as saying.
Tait was surprised by his elevation, but said he was keen to make his mark with the World Cup looming next year in the subcontinent.
“It will be pretty interesting to see what the set up is like leading into the World Cup. For now I will just concentrate on this game and hopefully help Australia get this series.”
Meanwhile, all-rounder Steve Smith is also in line to make his Test debut for Australia next month against Pakistan at Lord’s after Nathan Hauritz returned home due to injury.
Hauritz aggravated a foot injury in the opening two ODI defeats to England and will fly back to Australia for treatment.
Australia’s team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said that more would be known about his injury when Hauritz would return to training in the coming weeks. (ANI)
