Strauss dreams of two more Ashes series wins under his captaincy
January 8th, 2011 - 1:26 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jan 8 (ANI): England skipper Andrew Strauss has said he should still be around in 2013 when England play successive home and away series against Australia, and added that he has already decided that his next Ashes dream is to win two more Test series.
Strauss is already in a select club of men to lead England to Ashes victories in both countries and wants to build on that.
“I’d like to be captain in 2013 but a lot can happen in the game of cricket. You can start coming out with big comments but who knows what’s round the corner? But I can say my desire is beating as strongly as ever,” The Sun quoted Strauss, as saying.
“The majority of this team should be hitting their peaks in the next couple of years. That’s encouraging and we must always be thinking about how we can improve,” he said.
The next Ashes series in Australia has been brought forward from its normal four-yearly rotation to avoid future clashes with the World Cup.
England will play five Tests against Australia at home in 2013 and another five Down Under in 2013-14, making 10 back-to-back showdowns against the Aussies.
England completed their third innings victory of the series in the Fifth Test - this time by an innings and 83 runs.
Strauss said: “It feels special. Until an Ashes series is finally over, you have half an eye on what’s to come. Now we can be very proud of what we’ve achieved. There are no real secrets to our success. Our side is about discipline and patience, building pressure and relying on performances from all 11 players.” (ANI)
