Stigma of lossing three Ashes series will remain for life: Ponting

Sydney, Mar. 30 (ANI): Outgoing Australian captain Ricky Ponting has admitted that the stigma of losing three Ashes series as skipper will remain with him for life.

For all his brilliance as a batsman and record-breaking exploits as skipper, the retiring Ponting’s epitaph will be those defeats in 2005, 2009 and 2010-11.

Ponting is only the second Australian captain after Billy Murdoch back in the 19th century to have presided over three Ashes defeats.

“There probably are a few people who will look at me as the man who lost three Ashes series as captain. I’d like to think that through my playing time I’ve achieved a whole lot more than that. It’s funny how we talk about losing The Ashes three times,” The Sun quoted Ponting, as saying. “Australia must do everything to win back The Ashes in 2013 and the World Cup in 2015. It’s highly unlikely I’ll still be playing then, so it’s right the next captain is appointed now,” Ponting said. (ANI)
