Steve McNair Funeral

The death of Steve McNair is one of the big losses to the sports world and specially to his fans whom he have entertained for a long time. In his town Nashville on Thursday night several fans of the slain NFL quarterback Mcnair gathered along with McNair’s friends, family, former coaches and teammates for his funeral. According to reports, the funeral was attended by around 4,500 people gathering in the sanctuary besides many who had crowded the rooms of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church’s Whites Creek location. Earlier on Thursday morning, many fans were disappointed for not being able to see their star as the casket was closed on request of his family at the Lewis and Wright funeral home.
Mt. Zion’s pastor and the conductor of McNair’s funeral Bishop Joseph Walker III said that the funeral service that was conducted was according to the desire of the McNair family who wanted to stress on his whole life rather that the unfortunate circumstances under which he died. On the funeral, relating to the New Testament account, the Bishop shouted saying, “Next time you write about Steve McNair, drop your stone. ”
The closed casket was covered with flowers as the fans paid their tribute to McNair. The speeches delivered by McNair’s friends mainly reflect McNair as a family oriented individual who loved his sons and wife dearly and were also in praise of his wife, Mechelle who according to them stood had stood by his husband in all circumstances. Among the prominent individuals remembering the star through their speech were Omega Psi Phi, his fraternity brothers, Derek Mason, Kevin Mawae and lastly Eddie George who said after the service “That was tough, to carry his casket out. Now he has to go to his final resting place. Knowing that Steve’s remains, that’s his shell in that casket. That is not Steve. And I am not going to remember him in that capacity.”
