Columbus, Nov. 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Ohio State Community is “extremely saddened” by the news of the death of Stefanie Spielman, the wife of Ohio State football star Chris Spielman. Stefanie passed away on Thursday after fighting a long battle with breast cancer. She was 42 years old at the time of her death. Stefanie was an activist and fought a public battle against the disease that she herself was afflicted with. She passed away at Upper Arlington, the family’s home.
Stephanie was detected with a lump in her breast at the age of 30 years. She was three months pregnant which ended in a remorseful miscarriage. After the miscarriage, she was detected with breast cancer. She was cured four times with a relapse every time. She succumbed to the fifth relapse. Stefanie was an advocate for the research and detection of breast cancer. She won a number of awards for her work in which she was helped by her husband, Chris Spielman. She set up the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. The organization raised 6 million dollars for the cancer patients at Ohio State and funded her schooling. She was included in the Ohio Women’ Hall Fame and formed a group that supported women suffering from breast cancer.
Stefanie’s death is acknowledged as a great loss among all who fight against the deadly disease. She was a leading activist in this field. Although Chris is heartbroken at the loss, he bears with it with stoical courage. He thanks everyone for their he;p and support through the difficult years. He had himself been a great source for his wife. He had given up football for a year to be with her and shaved his head when Stefanie lost her hair due to chemotherapy.
