Stefaan Engels Sets New Marathon Record

Feb 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Belgian runner named Stefaan Engels has made a new world records by finishing 365 marathon races within 365 days. Needless to say, he has been hailed as the marathon man. He started his mission a year back in his homeland. Without a break he ran in marathons in 7 countries. The last marathon he ran was held in Barcelona. Stefaan Engels is 49-year-old and is happy with the record. However, he is modest enough to say “I don’t regard my marathon year as torture. It is more like a regular job”. The marathon runner said that the best timing that he achieved while finishing a marathon was close to three hours. The athlete is now basking in the joy of his success.
Amazing as it may sound, Stefaan Engels suffered from asthma from the time he was a child and the doctors advised him to steer clear from sport. He could not imagine he would be able to set a marathon record a few decades later. The 49-year-old started running marathons 20 years ago. He said after setting the record that after running a marathon, he takes a bath and undergoes a session of physiotherapy. Now that he has run marathons without a gap for a year, the man wants to take a break. Before the Belgian, the record for marathon was held by Japan’s Akinori Kusuda.
Some of Stefaan Engels’ marathon wins were in noted marathon competitions. In the last one year, he has covered over 15000 kms. This new record is going to make his entry to the Guinness Book of World Records easier.
