Hines Ward might have faltered but Ben Roethlisberger and Jeff Reed guided Pittsburgh Steelers safely to a win over Tennessee Titans on Thursday’s opening match of the NFL.

Two of the best players of the Steelers did falter in the opening match of the NFL. First Troy Polamalu hurt himself when his leg sprained, this might cause the star player for the Steelers to stay off the field for three weeks or more. Then Ward lost his grip on the ball. Yet it was Ben who saw the team through to a win with his outstanding passes.

For Ben this was the eighteenth time that he entered the game as a fourth-quarter and took the team to victory. Then it was Reed who in the last 10 minutes of overtime scored with a 33-yard goal and assured a 13-10 win over the Titans.

Mike Tomlin, the coach of the Pittsburg Steelers, says, “Such is life in the NFL. …We’ll take the victory …our guys hung in their.” Of Ben Roethlisberger the coach is all praise and says, “He was Ben. When the rubber meets the road, he is at his best. In those moments, he sees it with great clarity. He’s provided quality plays time and again.”

The crucial moment of the match was when Ward fumbled and lost his grip at the Titan’s 4 yard line with 51 seconds remaining. Ward says, “I pride myself on being that guy not to make that mistake, especially with the game on the line.” Ben shared his disbelief when he saw Ward fumble. He said, “When he caught it, I was like, “There’s our field goal. Game over.” When he started running, I thought he was going to score. Hines doesn’t ever get stopped inside the 5-yard line.”
