Sri Lankan high commission releases names of injured playersMarch 3rd, 2009 - 3:56 pm ICT by IANS
Islamabad, March 3 (IANS) Six Sri Lankan players and the team official were injured in an attack by armed gunmen in Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium Tuesday.
The Sri Lankan High Commission said in a statement: “The following members of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team have received minor injuries including Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Suranga Lakmal and Thilina Thushara and Assistant Coach Mr Paul Farbrace. Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana have been admitted to the Lahore Hospital.”
According to the hospital authorities, Tharanga Paranavitana and Thilan Samaraweera are out of danger, the statement said.
Later, Samaraweera and Paranavitana were brought back to the stadium and flown to the airport on a Pakistan Air Force helicopter for their return journey to Colombo.
The doctors have allowed the two players to travel.
Most of the other players have already been flown to Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore to be flown back home.
Pakistan Cricket Board’s Director Operation Zakir Khan and one of the doctors working with the board are accompanying the returning players.
