Sri Lankan cricket team receives warm welcome in Colombo
April 3rd, 2011 - 7:00 pm ICT by ANIColombo, Apr 3(ANI): Tens of thousands of Sri Lankans lined the streets of Colombo on Sunday to give their cricketers a warm reception despite losing to India in the World Cup final in Mumbai.
Schoolchildren waved the national flag as the team bus surrounded by tight security drove past them, while drummers and dancers welcomed the team at the Independence Square.
India won the title by beating Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
With this win, India has become the first nation to win the World Cup on home soil. (ANI)
