Sri Lankan Aussie coach shaken but not scared by terror attack, says wife
March 3rd, 2009 - 5:34 pm ICT by ANI Lahore, Mar.3 (ANI): The terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team on Tuesday in which six Lankan players were injured, also had the Australian coach of the team, Trevor Bayliss in the firing line.
Bayliss escaped unhurt in the incident, but not before two of the gun shots hit the windowpane next to him.
After the attack, Bayliss called his wife, Julie, in Sydney to confirm that he was alright.
Julie said that Bayliss was fine, and would be returning back home soon.
“He is fine but he did have three bullet holes in the window next to him so it was not his time … thank goodness!, The News.com quoted Julie, as saying.
She said Bayliss sounded terrified, but didnt sustain any hits.
“He was pretty shaken. There were only seven or eight of them that got away with no wounds at all. There was a fair bit of shrapnel around but he is fine, she said.
According to sources at least six Lankan players, namely captain Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana were wounded in the attack.
The Lankan team convoy was attacked on Tuesday morning when it was on its way to the Gaddafi Stadium where the second Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is being played.
Five security personnel were also reportedly killed in the firing and grenade attack. (ANI)
