Sri Lanka tour to Pak to be two- phased affairJanuary 10th, 2009 - 6:36 pm ICT by ANI
Lahore, Jan.10 (ANI): The Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the itinerary for the Pakistan tour.
The tour will be a two phased affair, with the one day internationals scheduled from January 21 to 27, while the Tests will be held in February and March this year.
However, the number of matches will be lesser than what the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had asked for.
Initially, the PCB had asked Sri Lanka to play three Tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 international.
First ODI will be held in Karachi on January 21, second in Lahore on January 24 and third in Multan, instead of Faisalabad, on January 27, he added. Sri Lanka will return to Pakistan on February 14 for a three-day tour match (February 17-19) and two Tests: in Karachi (February 22-26) and in Lahore (March 2-6), the Daily Times quoted a PCB spokesperson, as saying.
Cricket starved Pakistan is looking forward to host test matches on its soil for the first time in more than a year, after security concerns forced several teams to cancel or postpone their tours to the country.
Pakistan invited Sri Lanka for the series after India pulled out from their tour to Pakistan in January-February after the Indian government refused to grant permission to the cricket team to tour Pakistan in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.
Clouds of uncertainty hovered over the Sri Lanka tour of Pakistan after Sri Lankas Sports minister Gamini Lokuge disbanded the interim national cricket board and sacked its chairman Arjuna Ranatunga.
Later, President Mahinda Rajapakse gave the tour a green signal. (ANI)
