Sreesanth’s exclusion leaves Kerala cricket lovers disappointed
January 17th, 2011 - 5:40 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, Jan 17 (IANS) Cricket lovers in Kerala were disappointed following Shantakumaran Sreesanth’s exclusion from the Indian World Cup squad.Former cricket board secretary S.K. Nair Monday said Sreesanth was unlucky in not getting selected.
“Looking back over his career, Sreesanth has fought his way into the team with his performance and, given his current form, he could have easily walked into the team as the fourth seamer, but at times it happens like this. Munaf Patel’s performance at the last ODI in South Africa might have won him the place,” said Nair.
Sreesanth is currently with the team in South Africa, but he is yet to play an ODI match.
Former Kerala Ranji captain Karumanaseri Narayanaiyer Ananthapadmanabhan said the selection of the team was on expected lines barring the exclusion of Sreesanth.
“He is certainly one of the best bowlers in the country and the main reason why he is not in the team can be attributed to the fact that India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni doesn’t have faith in Sreesanth,” said Ananthapadmanabhan.
A group of college students in Kochi, the home town of Sreesanth, was miffed to hear about the local boy not being selected.
“Was there a need for three spinners and look Ashwin hails from Chennai and so does the chairman of the selectors. Also Praveen Kumar has been sent home due to his injuries but he finds a place in the team. The decision to leave out Sreesanth is very sad,” said one of the college students.
