Sreesanth unhappy at losing captaincy, KCA not bothered
June 9th, 2010 - 9:32 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, June 9 (IANS) Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) secretary T.C. Mathew Wednesday said they don’t have to respond to Indian speedster Sreesanth’s emotional outburst on being stripped of the state team’s captaincy.
Mathew said he was surprised to know that Sreesanth was contemplating playing for a different state after he was not chosen to lead Kerala.
“See, be it in any game, none asks for the place of the captain. Moreover, he led Kerala only for a short period last year. If he wishes to play for some other state team, he will have to apply for an NOC from the KCA. And if that comes, we will meet and decide what needs to be done,” said Mathew.
Sreesanth said Wednesday he was shocked to know that he was not the captain of the Kerala team.
“The least that they could have done was to inform me. I came to know about it from friends. I was shocked when a friend asked me why I am not leading the team. I feel there is no point in me continuing here, after all I am an international cricketer. A lack of motivation has crept in, and now a decision would be taken after speaking to my parents and friends,” said Sreesanth.
It was last year after a short gap that Sreesanth returned to international cricket when he played a crucial role in India’s 100th Test victory against Sri Lanka.
He last played in an ODI against the visiting South African team in February this year and since then he has been cooling his heels . He also failed to make it for the T20 World Cup and in any series played by the Senior team or even the A team.
KCA and Sreesanth have been at loggerheads for some time and last year in October the association gave him a warning after he kept away from a conditioning camp without informing the board.
