Sportscaster Ernie Harwell Passes Away At 92

Ernie HarwellMay 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Hall of Fame American sportscaster Ernie Harwell passed away on Tuesday at his home in Novi, Michigan. The veteran broadcaster who is known to have been the voice of the Detroit Tigers for 42 long years succumbed to cancer, according to reports that have surfaced. The news of the demise of much acclaimed broadcaster, who is known for his illustrious career spanning across 55 years, has come as a rude shock to all his fans. Ernie Harwell was 92 years old at the time of his death.

The news of the renowned sportscaster’s death was confirmed by the Detroit Tigers, who is known for its more than four decades of association with Ernie Harwell. His demise comes just months after the broadcaster was diagnosed with the cancer of the bile duct which is said to have been in an inoperable condition. S. Gary Spicer, Ernie Harwell’s long time friend and lawyer revealed that the longtime Detroit Tigers broadcaster breathed his last on Tuesday evening in his apartment at the Fox Run Village and Retirement Center which is located in the Detroit suburb of Novi. At the same time, it has been revealed that Ernie Harwell’s mortal remains would be kept at the Comerica Park so that all his fans can get the opportunity to pay their final respects to the much loved sportscaster.

In a statement that has been released, Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig reiterated that the death of Ernie Harwell comes as a huge loss to the game. He further emphasized that the sportscaster was one of the most iconic announcers of the game.
