Sports Minister Gill meets Dikshit, Kalmadi
September 15th, 2009 - 11:18 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS) Sports Minister M.S. Gill Tuesday met Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi and secretary general Randhir Singh separately in the backdrop of the Commonwealth Games Federation chief Michael Fennell expressing scepticism over India’s ability to host the 2010 Games.
“Sports Minister had separate meetings with all three of them during the day,” Rajesh Malhotra, spokesperson of the sports ministry, confirmed to IANS.
He, however, refused to give any details of the meeting.
A source told IANS that the minister discussed in detail the situation arising out of Fennell seeking an apointment with Prime Minster Manmohan Singh to apprise him of the slow progress of the projects for the 2010 Games.
Fennell was reportedly upset with the Organising Committee (OC) during the meeting of its executive board Thursday and asked Kalmadi to fix an appointment with the prime minister during his next visit for CGF general assembly in October.
Dikshit and Organising Committee (OC) chairman Kalmadi had downplayed the apprehensions Monday, saying that India will host a “highly successful Games”.
