Allahabad/ Bhubaneswar, Apr 24(ANI): Sports fans across India marked the 38th birthday of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar with fervour and gaiety on Sunday, conveying their wishes to the ace batsman through innovative zeal.
Tendulkar was born on April 24, 1973, in Mumbai and made his test debut against Pakistan as a curly-haired 16-year-old, becoming the youngest Indian test player. A year later, he hit his maiden test hundred in England.
He holds a number of batting records, including the aggregate in one-day matches with an impressive 17,598 runs and 46 centuries. He also holds the record for most test hundreds (47).
Marking the occasion, cricket lovers in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, created a beautiful 1,500 feet long painting depicting the sports legend to show their appreciation.
The painting, featuring various facets of Tendulkar’s personality, honoured the skills and talent of the batting maestro.
“We have made a 1500 feet long painting to celebrate the birthday of Sachin Tendulkar. Marking his 38th birthday, we made the painting in 38 hours to convey our wishes to the cricket legend. We wish him a very happy birthday,” said Vinod Kumar Gupta, a cricket fan.
Tendulkar was named player of the 2003 World Cup, scoring a record 673 runs to help India reach the final, where they lost to Australia.
In 2004, he equalled compatriot Sunil Gavaskar’s world record of 34 Test hundreds while compiling 248 not out, his highest score, in Australia.
Meanwhile, in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, enthusiastic artists made a sand sculpture depicting Tendulkar.
“Today is Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday. We all want to wish him a very happy birthday so that he remains happy throughout his life and he keeps playing for India and leads India to victory. He led us to victory in this world cup and we are very thankful to him. He is a great person by heart and a great player,” said Swati, a cricket fan.
In a career spanning 21 years, Tendulkar is now one century away from getting an unprecedented 100th international ton.
He has scored close to 33,000 international runs, and is the only cricketer to score 200 runs in ODIs.
He was also the Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1997. (ANI)
