Sporting record first I-league victory

Kolkata, Nov 14 (IANS) Vimal Pariyar struck a late goal to enable Sporting record their maiden win with a 1-0 scoreline against Goa’s Vasco Sports in the I-league here Friday.The match between the two bottom rankers of the glamorous meet never really rose to any heights, but Sporting could have left the Salt Lake stadium with a superior margin if their forwards had not muffed up gilt-edged opportunities.

The goal came in the 86th minute following a goalkeeping lapse on the part of Vasco’s Milagrio Medeira, who failed to judge the flight of a Sovan Chakraborty cross from the left, and Pariyar went for the kill with little difficulty.

Sporting got a couple of easy chances in the session, but midfielder Adewusi Adebayo wasted both.

In the first session, the visitors went on the offensive but the Sporting goalkeeper brought off some excellent saves.

After seven rounds, Sporting occupy the penultimate position with six points, four more than wooden spooners Vasco.
