Kolkata, Sep 29 (IANS) City outfit Mohammedan Sporting and Air India, Mumbai, dished out a listless fare to finish with a 1-1 draw in their ONGC I-League engagement at Barasat near here Monday.Air India shot into the lead in the 24th minute through Barasat boy Surojit Roy, before Sporting’s dangerous striker Theodore Sunday restored parity after the breather.

The match, played a slow pace under lights, never rose to any great heights, and both teams seemed content to end their first game of this edition of the glamorous league with a point each.

The visitors, who controlled the game in the initial stages, came close to netting quarter of an hour into the first half. A Uttam Singh throw saw Michael Tayo head the ball, but Sporting keeper Naseem Akhtar matched up to the challenge by saving his side’s collapse.

Air India went ahead when Emmanuel snatched a ball in the midfield, and passed on to Michael Tayo, who released in time for Surojit to place in with a right footer, before the local admirers.

Down 0-1, Sporting upped the ante, but poor finishing was their undoing in the first session.

The Kolkata team finally levelled in the 59th minute, as Sunday chest-trapped a Jyotikumar free kick, before scoring with a left footer.
