Florida, Dec 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to New York Daily News, sponsors are taking their first small step back from Tiger Woods, Bloomberg News reporting Tuesday that advertisements featuring him, at least on prime-time broadcast television, are as hard to find right now as Tiger Woods himself is.
It is no wonder that when he was just linked to sexy waitresses then the sponsors had to no option but to overlook the small transgressions, but with porn stars also in the picture now, sponsors are having their second thoughts. According to reports, Tiger Woods advertisements, which used to be featured on prime time television are reportedly not seen now. Presumably they have been taken off the air for now.
Since Tiger Woods had a squeaky clean image prior to the infamous Thanksgiving accident and the subsequent scandal that unfolds new surprises everyday, so the sponsors are in for quiet a shock. As the transition from a devoted family man with 2 kids and a wonderful wife to a voracious adulterous man linked with waitresses and porn stars is quiet difficult to digest for the sponsors. Earlier they had adopted the ‘wait-&-watch’ scheme, hoping that the scandal would die off on its own, but it shows no signs of abating.
Meanwhile American car manufacturer, General Motors, had already announced a few days ago that it is ending its sponsorship deal with the world’s most recognizable athlete, Tiger Woods.
UK newspaper, The Guardian, reported that the deal between GM and Woods, said to be worth more than $10m (£6.6m) a year to the golfer, had endured for almost a decade and become one of the most visible sponsorship arrangements in sport, not least because Woods’ golf bag had been transformed into an advertisement for Buick, one of the car manufacturer’s brands.
