Spinner Swann keen for more success in cricket’s white-ball formats
January 13th, 2011 - 4:08 pm ICT by ANIAdelaide (Australia), Jan.13 (ANI): Off-spinner Graeme Swann wants England to build on their Ashes victory with further success in the limited-overs matches against Australia.The first of two T20Is took place in Adelaide on Wednesday and England emerged a winner by a wicket. The second takes place in Melbourne and will be followed by seven one-day internationals.
“It’s nice to win the Ashes, I won’t lie to you. It’s been a great tour for us so far and the worst thing for us would be if we stuttered and stopped at the end of the tour. We want to go home to 50,000 people at Heathrow cheering us which, if we lose the one-dayers, might be down to about 40,000,” Sky Sports quoted Swann, as saying.
He added: “It’s important that we show the good one-day form we’ve shown recently because we want to be number one in all forms.”
England have established themselves as the best side in the shortest format of the game under team director Andy Flower, with their World Twenty20 success in the Caribbean last May confirming that status.
They beat Australia by seven wickets to seal the success in Barbados and Swann is determined to make sure they retain their lofty status in the current series, which concludes in Melbourne on Friday.
“We want to be the best team at this format for a long time, not just 18 months,” Swann said. (ANI)
