Chandigarh, Aug 16 (IANS) Officers of a Delhi Police wing responsible for the security of the Indian president’s official guests and foreign dignitaries have been deputed to provide protection to the country’s lone individual Olympic medal winner Abhinav Bindra, one of the officers accompanying the Olympian said. The officer, who did not wish to be identified, Saturday said he and his colleague have been tasked with Bindra’s security on the orders of Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Das.

“We have been with him right from the moment he arrived in New Delhi. We will remain here until we get further orders from New Delhi,” the officer said.

“In Delhi, there was a police control room (PCR) van, four commando officers and traffic officials posted with the Bindra family,” he said.

“In Punjab, there are no such security arrangements and we have not seen any Punjab Police official here since (Saturday) morning,” the officer pointed out.

Bindra arrived at his family farm near Zirakpur town in Punjab from Delhi Saturday, after meeting President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who congratulated him for his Beijing showing.
