Spanish Ministry of Defence bans sporting websitesApril 24th, 2008 - 6:37 pm ICT by admin
Madrid, April 24 (DPA) The Spanish defence ministry has prohibited all military personnel from reading sports websites, sports daily Marca reported Thursday. According to the report, the ministry has cut off access to all sporting websites, claiming that the military computer network is “being saturated” by officers, soldiers and sailors reading the sports news.
Apparently, the problem is particularly acute amongst Spanish military personnel based in Afghanistan and other overseas locations.
The prohibition is being blamed on Carme Chacon, the new socialist Minister of Defence.
Chacon, 37, is Spain’s first female Minister of Defence, and recently raised eyebrows by making a surprise visit to the Spanish troops based in Afghanistan - despite being seven months pregnant.
