South Korea’s Kim takes shooting gold in 25m pistol
August 2nd, 2012 - 1:22 am ICT by IANSLondon, Aug 1 (IANS/RIA Novosti) South Korea’s Kim Jangmi shot her way to gold in the 25-metre pistol event Wednesday, edging out China’s Ying Chen despite a disappointing showing in the final.
Kim’s final score of 201.4 was only fifth-best in a competitive final, but her six-point advantage from qualifying was enough to see the world record holder to the gold medal with a score of 792.4.
Ying, who won the gold in Beijing four years ago with an Olympic record score, took silver with a total score of 791.4 after shooting 206.4 in the final.
Ukraine’s Olena Kostevych took her second bronze medal of the Olympics with a score of 788.6, following her earlier third place in the 10m air pistol Sunday.
