Ahmedabad, April 5 (IANS) South Africa declared their first innings at 494 for seven wickets, piling up a lead of 418 runs against India in the second Test of the three match series here Saturday. Play at the Sardar Patel Stadium was supposed to start half an hour early on the third day after over 12 overs were lost Friday due to heavy showers. But the dampness in the outfield forced the match to resume at the scheduled time 9.30 a.m.
Bright sunshine had given way to cloudy sky and a few sloppy patches in the ground were being taken care of.
There will be a maximum of 98 overs on the third day and play has been extended by half an hour in the evening till 5.40 p.m.
