January 31, 2011 (Pen Men at Work): Martin Luther King III, who is the eldest son of the venerable American civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr., is purportedly addicted to becoming a minority proprietor of the New York Mets (NYM).

The New York Post (TNYP) asserted on Sunday that King III was a component of a bid that consists of the erstwhile primary baseman of the NYM, Ed Kranepool, as well as Donn Clendenon Jr. and television director, Larry Meli. Clendenon’s Dad was MVP in the NYM’s awesome triumph in the1969 World Series.

King III has voiced to AP that there has been much conversation about his involvement in the acquirement of the NYM. He has divulged that it was untimely to make those deliberations public. However, he remarked that he valued multiplicity among proprietors in professional sports. King III has verbalized that he is ever ready to promote the ideal of a more miscellaneous proprietorship group in professional sports.

Meli has vocalized that King III, who supervises the King Center in Atlanta, is journeying to New York this week to interact with the NYM’s possessor, Fred Wilpon, and his son, Jeff Wilpon, who is the CEO. The Wilpons articulated on Friday that they intended to vend virtually 25% interest in the team.

Therefore, as can be witnessed, NYM’s proprietors need not fear a dearth of keen investors, from whom they desire a cash influx, on account of the uncertainty surrounding the proprietors’ connection to the ‘Bernie Madoff ‘ litigation. Fred Wilpon is scheduled to interact with the baseball commissioner, Bud Selig, on Tuesday in New York about the monetary difficulties the Wilpons are encountering.

Meanwhile, the proprietor of the New Jersey Nets (NJN), who is a tycoon named Mikhail Prokhorov, is not eager to acquire any additional American sports franchise, as per his publicist.
