Somerset tame Warriors to enter CLT20 semis
October 5th, 2011 - 9:25 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, Oct 5 (IANS) English county Somerset entered the semi-finals of the Champions League Twenty20 with a 12-run win over Warriors of South Africa at the Chinnaswamy stadium here Wednesday.
Chasing a modest target of 147, Warriors were restricted to 134 for eight wickets in 20 overs.
After a promising start, Warriors failed to accelerate the score past 12 overs when their middle order batsmen and tailenders capitulated to a spirited bowling attack and fine fielding of the English team.
Skipper Alfonso Thomas, Murali Kartik and Steven Kirby shared two wickets each, while Adam Dibble and Roelof van der Merwe took one wicket each.
With five points from four matches against four points by Warriors in as many matches, Somerset will play in the semi-finals.
Earlier, winning the toss and electing to bat, Somerset struggled to reach 146 for four wickets in 20 overs after a disastrous start when opener Peter Trego was caught behind by keeper Athenkosi Dylli for duck in the first over of Lonwabo Tsotsobe.
Though opening partner Craig Kieswetter, who remained till the end unbeaten at 56 with three sixes and four fours, tried to accelerate the score in partnerships with van der Merwe (32), James Hildreth (21) and Joss Buttler (30), they could not push the total beyond 150.
For Warriors, Tsotsobe, Jon-Jon Smuts, skipper Johan Botha and Juan Theron shared one wicket each.
