Somdev to play opening singles of Davis Cup tie

Kaohsiung (Taiwan), March 5 (IANS) Somdev Devvarman will play the opening singles against Ti Chen in India’s first Davis Cup tennis clash against Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) here Friday.
Somdev, who is India No.1 singles player and ranked 150, will meet meet Chen, ranked 365, in the Asia-Oceania Group-I tie at the Yang Ming Tennis Center.

In the second singles, Rohan Bopanna, ranked 320, will play Chinese Taipei’s top player Yen-Hsun Lu, ranked 59.

On the second day, Saturday, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes will take on Tsung-Hua Yang and Chu-Huan Yi in the doubles.

In the reverse singles, Sunday, Lu will play Devvarman while Chen faces Bopanna.

Last year India reached the World Group for the first time since 2005, but slipped back to the regional group with a loss against Romania.
