New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS) India’s double trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi will look to defend his World Cup final title at Al Ain in the UAE Tuesday.

Ronjan, ranked eighth, is the only Indian shooter to have qualified for the prestigious Shotgun World Cup final events.

The Punjab shooter is delighted to have achieved the world no.1 rankings in the double trap shooting besides qualifying for his first ever Olympics.

“It’s been indeed a great year for me. From the World No.1 ranking to two back-to-back medals at the World Cup and my first ever Olympics qualification, it feels like one the best years for me,” Sodhi said.

“If you see the qualification list for the World Cup finals for the last 3 or 4 years, it has been the same 7 or 8 shooters. The World Cup final is the season-ending elite event where consistency is the key to make the cut. Scores shot during the four World Cups in the season and the final position are taken into account to qualify for the World Cup Final and I feel glad to be at this position.”

The Punjab shooter is supported by Mittal Champions Trust, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Sahara India.
