Six bronze medals for India in Vovinam meet
August 3rd, 2011 - 4:56 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS) The Indian Vovinam martial arts team won six bronze medals in the World Vovinam Championship organised in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam July 26-31.
“Twenty-Two countries including Vietnam, Italy, France, Iran, Laos, Indonesia and Cambodia participated in the championship. India struggled against the top teams but played well to win six bronze medals,” said a statement from the Vovinam Association of India Wednesday.
Vovinam is a Vietnamese martial art practised with and without weapons.
Medals: Jiban Sanasam (51kg male), Kanta Singh (54kg male), Ajit Meitei (57kg male), Saraswathy Rethinam (51kg female)
Saraswathy Rethinam, Ruhini Devi, Meena Rani Devi (3 female group performance)
Ruhini Devi-Ajit Meitei, Kanta Singh, Prem Kumar (1 female vs 3 male without weapon performance)
