Sierra College Men’s Golf Team at 4th Place Tie in State TournamentMay 14th, 2009 - 12:01 am ICT by GD
On Monday the Men’s Golf team of Sierra College finished at the fourth place tie at the state community college tournament. Fresno City had a 8 under par 712 and got to a 21 shot win at the Sierra View Country Club in Roseville with the par 72,6488 yard.s.
Kevin Lucas and Stephen Edman of the Wolverines played very good golf on the 36-hole tournament but were not good enough to bring up the other Wolverines. Lucas finished with sixth place overall 72-69 and Edman had 71-70.
Sierra College Men’s Golf Team coach Tim Hovancsek said, “We were 14 shots back after the morning rounds, we had to go low and get into red figures for the afternoon round to have a chance. It got exciting following Kyle Chatelain’s birdie on No. 10 that put him at six under through 10 holes coupled with Stephen, Kevin and Ryan Miller’s under par golf put the team in a position to break par and sneak into a medal position. The guys hung tough and fought back with three of six scores under par, but it just wasn’t enough.”
For the third consecutive year the Sierra College Men’s Golf Team has won the Big 8 conference and the NorCal Championships. At the NorCal tournament match last week the Wolverines beat Fresno City by 23 stokes with a stellar performance from Lucas.
Th top team results had Fresno City rule the charts with 712 (358-354) and Palomar coming in second with 728 (372-356). Ventura came in third with 729 (372-357) followed by the Sierra College Men’s Golf Team at fourth with 733 (372-361).
