Karachi, dec.16 (ANI): pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik says that he is not too bothered about whether he will be retained as captain of the national squad or not.
Malik told reporters at the National Stadium here on Monday that he will remain focused on his performance for the national team whether he stays as Pakistan captain or not.
Pakistans selectors are set to take a decision over Maliks captaincy within the next couple of weeks,The News reports.
For me the more important thing than captaincy is how I perform for my team as one of its members, said Malik after guiding Punjab Stallions to a 17-run triumph over NWFP Panthers in a Pentangular One-day Championship match here.
Malik, 26, was appointed as Pakistan captain after Inzamam-ul-Haq led the side to an embarrassing first round exit from the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies last March.
Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Nasim Ashraf handpicked Malik as Inzamams successor, ignoring several more experienced captaincy candidates like premier batsman Mohammad Yousuf and all-rounder Shahid Afridi.
Shoaibs 20-month stint as Pakistan skipper has mostly been criticised by pundits, who believe that he is a weak captain.
New PCB chief Ijaz Butt has made it clear that the Board will take a final decision on whether to retain Malik as captain after carefully reviewing his performance as the teams leader. (ANI)
