Shane Watson is forgiven, says Gayle
December 22nd, 2009 - 1:58 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Perth (Australia), Dec. 22 (ANI): West Indian captain Chris Gayle has described Australian all-rounder Shane Watson as an interesting individual, and is prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt for the send-off he gave at Perth.
In an article for the Courier Mail, Gayle said: “Watson didn’t say anything to me, but he just kept screaming in my direction. He probably has a bit of a temper and is pretty emotional, so he was just letting it all out.”
“There is no doubt he over-reacted, but I am prepared to move on,” he adds.
He also said that he was not keen on criticising match referees or umpires, as they have a job to do and have do it to the best of their ability.
Admitting that he was confused about how some of the incidents in Perth were handled, he said he still had doubts and concerns about the lack of uniformity in the treatment of players.
“If one penalty goes for one, it should go for all. But Benny got suspended and the two Australian players were fined. As a player there is not much more I can say about it, but the West Indies board will certainly be discussing it and they will be talking to the International Cricket Council about it,” Gayle said.
“There was certainly a lot of talk and a lot of niggle from the Australian players in Perth. They played us really hard and in some ways it felt like like an Ashes series. One thing that I think we have exposed in this series is Ricky Ponting’s problems against the short ball,” he added. (ANI)
