Shahier and Alana to lead Canada’s squash challenge in CWG
September 17th, 2010 - 7:17 pm ICT by IANSOttawa, Sep 17 (IANS) Two-time men’s national Champion Shahier Razik and three-time women’s Open national champion Alana Miller will lead the Canadian squash team in the Delhi Commonwealth Games Oct 3-14.
The squash competition at the Commonwealth Games will see some of the top nations like England, Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia sending their best players.
Shahier Razik at 27 is the highest ranked Canadian in the world while Alana Miller at 35 is the highest ranked women.
The squash event is scheduled Oct 4-13 and will have 15 medals at stake.
“I’d like to congratulate all of the squash athletes being named today and to welcome them to Team Canada,” said Martha Deacon, Canada’s chef de mission.
“There is an excitement building as the 2010 Commonwealth Games draw nearer. I’m very much looking forward to cheering our squash team as they compete against many of the world’s best in Delhi.”
“With all of our Canadian players competing on international circuits, we look forward to taking on many of the best players in the world. We know that players like Shahier and Alana will provide great leadership to the younger players and we expect to create some upsets,” said national coach Yvon Provençal.

Women: Alana Miller, Miranda Ranieri, Stephanie Edmison and Samantha Cornett.
Men: Shahier Razik, Shawn Delierre, Robin Clarke and Andrew McDougall
