Series satisfying, quickies need to improve: Dhoni
October 26th, 2011 - 12:10 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 25 (IANS) After registering a 5-0 ODI win against England, Indian Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said Tuesday the series was satisfying but the fast bowlers need to improve.
?As far the series was concerned it was satisfying. If you look at the wicket you don?t get the same kind of confidence. To some extent, it was a very ugly-looking wicket. It was very difficult to score runs. We were very fortunate to score runs on a wicket like this,? Dhoni said at the post-match award ceremony.
India defeated England by 95 runs in the fifth ODI to complete a 5-0 whitewash at the Eden Gardens here Tuesday.
Chasing 272, England were all out for 176 in 37 overs. Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (3-28) and Ravindra Jadeja (4-33) were the best bowlers for India.
?I want to play till the end. If the ball is in my area I want to hit it over the boundary but if the ball is not in my area then it is important to take singles. It is also very important to see in the opposition who are the bowlers who you can target to put on the pressure. After that it?s a question of who can bear the pressure well,? said Dhoni.
Asked about change in the fate of the game after Engaland were 129 without loss, Dhoni said: ?I think they got off with a very good start and from behind I was thinking that this is not the wicket the scorecard is saying. So I was just waiting for the wicket to spin and I delayed the Powerplay. Once it started to spin I knew it would be difficult for the batsmen to rotate strike without taking chances. Overall it was a game for the slower blowers,? Dhoni added.
Dhoni felt that a lot of improvement is needed in the fast bowling department.
?In fielding department we have really improved but still we need fast bowlers to improve and put in a bit more effort. At times, we find them nagging on the speed. We need to improve when it comes to the fast bowling department,? Dhoni said.
