According to the sources, Serena Williams has been reportedly fined $10,000 by the US Open organizers after the former had allegedly made derogatory comments against the lineswoman during her semi-final match against Kim Clijsters, which later on cost her the match as a penalty.
The American tennis player had reportedly lost her cool during the match after she was awarded a foot-fault, got involved in an altercation with the lineswoman. The officials who have earlier fined Serena for $500 for racket abuse in the same match, made possible indications that further penalties can be imposed on the player after the investigation over the entire incident is over. “The grand slam rule book allows for an investigation to be conducted by the grand slam committee administrator to determine if the behaviour of Ms Williams warrants consideration as a major offence, for which additional penalties can be imposed. This investigation has just now begun,” said referee Brian Earley in a statement.
Reports say that the WTA tour chief Stacey Allaster had reportedly termed Serena Williams’ behaviour as both “inappropriate and unprofessional”. Neither Williams nor Earley revealed what exactly Serena had said to the lineswoman. The legendary tennis player John McEnroe, who is quite familiar with such controversies reportedly said that Serena should be suspended for breaching the code of conduct. On the other hand it has been reported that Williams has reportedly refused to apologize. She seemed quite unrepentant.
In a statement released by Serena, the player has reportedly said that she should have kept her cool during the altercation. It is yet to be known regarding the consequences that the player has to bear due to the alleged incident.

True enough Serena lost her cool, but who hasn’t. What I would like to know is how many foot faults were called at the US Open tournament in the Womens draw, and how many of them were called on Venus and Serena. The Williams sisters have meant so much to USA tennis over the past 10 years and still they are treated as outsiders. Just because I am American does not mean that I dont like other players from other countries, but I will not cheer for them over my countrymen. I dont believe it was racially motivated I think its just Anti-Williams sentiment. I have never seen Serena act this poorly and for everyone in the tennis world to act like this is the worst thing to happen should remember John McEnroe and Jimmy Connor. Mary Carillo really had a nasty attitude about the situation. Calling for a harsher punishment. The USTA will decide that not Carillo.
