Serena Williams New York, Dec 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) One of the most talented tennis star Serena Williams was fined a whopping $82,500 for her angry tirade against an U.S. Open line judge. Along with this fine, she could even be suspended from that tournament if she has another “major offense” at any Grand Slam over the next two years.

Grand Slam administrator Bill Babcock’s landmark ruling was released on Monday, and he said that Serena Williams faces a “probationary period” at tennis’ four major championships in 2010 and 2011. And in case she has another “major offense” at a Grand Slam tournament in that time, then the fine would be increased to $175,000 and she would be barred from the following U.S. Open.

“But if she does not have another offense in the next two years, the suspension is lifted,” Babcock said in a telephone interview from London.

He also revealed that Serena Williams is paying the fine right away. Serena Williams had shouted her disgust to the lineswoman, in front of a stadium crowd of 23,000 and an international television audience of many millions. This had happened around 3 months earlier. It was quiet a bitter pill for the tennis officials to swallow and they hence came out with this ruling which includes a huge fine plus a probation too.

Serena Williams has won 11 Grand Slams, and will be ending the year as the No. 1 ranked female player too.
