Sep 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Senior quarterback of West Orange Stark High School, Reggie Garrett died on Friday night after he collapsed following a touchdown pass during a school football game. Although some media sources claimed that the player died at the sidelines of the field, some eyewitnesses have mentioned that they saw the eyes of Reggie Garrett open when he was put on a stretcher and taken out of the stadium.
The player was rushed to Baptist Orange Hospital immediately but failed to regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at around 9:30 p.m. The news of the death of Reggie Garrett was confirmed to media sources by hospital spokeswoman Mary Poole. However, the sudden death of the quarterback is being investigated by the police and an autopsy report is awaited. The autopsy will make the exact cause of the death of Reggie Garrett clear.
Reggie Garrett walked to the field sidelines after throwing a touchdown pass with just nine minutes remaining in the second quarter of the game. Defensive coordinator Cornel Thompson said to media sources that he saw the player slowly jogging his way to the sidelines and collapsing as the team of paramedics rushed towards him. Cornel Thompson maintained that although he knew about Reggie Garrett’s history of seizures he never knew that it would take such a serious and fatal form. Bryce Crew, a fellow teammate of Reggie Garrett said to media sources that he saw the player fall to the ground after he came to the sideline kicking the extra point.
It was Reggie Garrett’s touchdown pass that led his team to post a 21-0 lead over its opponent. Although West Orange Stark High School won the game with a 27-6 lead, its players and coaches gathered at the 50-yard line after the game to pay their last tribute to Reggie Garrett.
