Sehwag to return for second ODI against Sri LankaJanuary 30th, 2009 - 10:41 pm ICT by IANS
Colombo, Jan 30 (IANS) India’s dashing opener Virender Sehwag is almost certain to come back to the side in the second one-day International cricket match against Sri Lanka here Saturday.”Sehwag is fit, and most likely he will play tomorrow,” skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni told reporters after the practice session at Premadasa International Stadium Friday.
The 30-year-old opening batsman missed the first ODI in Dambulla due to hip pain, but India won the match comfortably by six wickets.
Sehwag, however, was back on the field Friday and had a good training session.
Dhoni denied that Sehwag’s return will result in a selection dilemma and hinted that Rohit Sharma, who made an unbeaten 25 in Dambulla, will have to sit out.
“We will go with the first eleven that was supposed to play during the first ODI at Dambulla. We do make way for our batsmen. He will be back and our batting will be stronger,” Dhoni said.
Trailing 0-1 in the series, Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene said he had nothing to worry too much about the series.
“Our batsmen, specially the openers have done well. It is only a one-off game that we lost. Still it was a good contest. We like challenges and are looking forward to the future challenges,” he said.
However, Jayawardene’s own form is under some scrutiny as he has failed to score a half-century in the last 13 innings.
