Security beefed up for Guwahati ODI
November 6th, 2009 - 5:04 pm ICT by ANIGuwahati (Assam), Nov.6 (ANI): Security has been tightened for the sixth one-day international between India and Australia to be played here on Sunday.
Police and sources said that a three-tier security blanket has been thrown in and around the Nehru Stadium, the venue of the match.
Both teams will arrive in the city on Friday, a day after playing a humdinger of a match in Hyderabad, which India lost by three runs.
“We have made all the arrangements and for this purpose, we have been given sufficient number of security and officials from other district of the state, including CRPF (Central Paramilitary Force, an India paramilitary force). So, they will be deployed, it will be secure,” said Pradeep Chandra Saloi, Senior Superintendent of Police, Guwahati City.
Security has been beefed up in view of the fact that there are about two-dozen armed insurgent groups operating in India’s northeast. Most of them are either fighting for an independent homeland or for more political autonomy. (ANI)
