‘Scud’ Philippoussis wants another shot at playing top flight tennis

Melbourne, Oct. 25 (ANI): Mark Philippoussis, famously known on the tennis circuit as “Scud” for his booming serves and returns, wants to have another crack at top-level tennis.
According to the Herald Sun, Philippoussis’s improbable plans have been endorsed by former world champion Jim Courier, who has declared that the Australian could “play with anybody” in his current form.
Steeled by practice sessions with triple Wimbledon runner-up Andy Roddick in southern California, Philippoussis thumped Courier 6-4 6-1 to win the champions’ series event in Surprise, Arizona.
The victory was Philippoussis’s second triumph on the senior circuit, following his maiden success against John McEnroe in Boston in May.
With wins this week against grand slam champions Michael Chang and Courier, Philippoussis says his love for tennis - and full fitness - have returned.
“I’ve just fallen back in love with the sport on the Champions Series,” Philippoussis said.
He added: “It’s just great and since I’ve gotten that love back, my body has been getting stronger. I feel I can hit the ball just as hard as the guys on the (ATP World) Tour, so why not give it a go if I’m having this much fun?”
The Champions Series tennis circuit is restricted to players who have reached at least a major singles final, been ranked in the top five in the world or played singles on a championship-winning Davis Cup team. (ANI)
