scotyVancouver, Feb 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) American snowboarder Scotty Lago grabbed the third position in the Olympics halfpipe snowboarding championship and as a result took home the bronze medal last evening. The Seabrook native was left behind by fellow American Shaun White, who captured his second gold with Peeru Piiroinen of Finland earning the silver medal in the championship.

The 22 year old snowboarder displayed quite an impressive performance and managed to gather much attention among the crowds. The initial run of the finals witnessed Scotty Lago delivering his best shot as he managed to score an impressive 42.8 points which enabled him to register the first spot. However, his lead was only short-lived as soon final rider Shaun White was able to overcome him with his score of 46.8. Moreover, during the final run of the championship, Scotty Lago lost his balance as a result of which he had to end up with a score of 17.5 points and subsequently had to settle for a bronze. However, given the fact that Scotty Lago was making his first Olympics appearance, his noteworthy performance surely earned him many accolades.

Earlier during the semi-finals at the Cypress Mountain, Scotty Lago paid tribute to fellow snowboarders, Danny Davis and Kevin Pearce. Danny Davis was injured in a vehicle accident earlier this year and has undergone two surgeries following the crash while Kevin Pearce is recovering from a major injury that he received on December 31. His win at the Olympics 2010 enabled United States to take home multiple medals at the halfpipe for the past three Olympics. Meanwhile, one of the major highlights of Scotty Lago’s career is his win at the 2004 World Quarterpipe Championship.
