Schweinsteiger to miss Germany’s World Cup qualifiers

Berlin, Aug 31 (IANS) Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has not called up by Germany coach Joachim Loew for the country’s next two World Cup qualifiers.

Germany will play against the Faroe Islands on Sep 7 and in Austria four days later, reports Xinhua.

“I spoke at lengths to Bastian and we agreed that he needed a bit longer to get back into a training and playing rhythm. We are planning with him for the matches against Ireland and Sweden,” Loew said.

The coach has recalled captain Philipp Lahm, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker.

Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer, Ron-Robert Zieler, Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Defenders: Holger Badstuber, Jerome Boateng, Philipp Lahm, Benedikt Hoewedes, Mats Hummels, Marcel Schmelzer, Per Mertesacker
