Schoolboy Jayavel bags chess title

Chennai, Oct 10 (IANS) Local schoolboy Mugil Jayavel emerged champion in the inaugural United India Insurance - CDCA FIDE Rated chess tournament (Below 2200), with a tally of 10.0 points from 11 rounds.

Jayavel, a student of Don Bosco School, finished a clear half point ahead of Ramakrishna Perumalla (AP) and Osama Salim (Velammal School) here Sunday.

In-form Jayavel coasted to a comfortable win in the second board against Naveen Hegde of Karnataka. The win fetched Jayavel the title as the top board game between Kantilal Dave and Perumalla ended in a quiet draw.

Final placings: 1.Mugil Jayavel (Don Bosco School) 10, 2-3 Ramakrishna Perumalla (AP), Osama Salim (Velammal School) 9.5, 4-9 Dangmei Bosco (Manipur), L. Barath (Velammal School), Kantilal Dave (Rajasthan), M.L. Abhilash Reddy, M. Chakravarthy Reddy (both AP), Singh Soram Rahul (Assam) 9, 10-12 L.N. Ram Aravind, S. Prasannaa (Velammal School) Srija Seshadri (Neyveli) 8 pts.
