New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS) Saurabh Singh accounted for top seed Ronak Manuja in the boys singles to set up a title clash with Sumeet Shinde in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Grade II tournament at the Delhi Lawn Tennis (DLTA) Complex here Thursday. While Saurabh overcame Manuja 7-6(4),7-5, Sumeet came from behind to beat compatriot Shiva Sangwan 3-6,6-2,7-5.

In the girls singles, Radhika Teltumbde justified her top billing to get the better of Ashvarya Shrivastava 6-1,4-6,6-2, and she now plays second seed Sachie Ishizu of Japan in the final.

It was Ronak who first snapped Suarabh’s serve in the fourth game but dropped his in the next. The two lost serve again in the seventh and eighth games to force a tie-break which Saurabh took at four.

Ronak tried to claw his way back in the second set with his big serve and powerful strokes. He broke Saurabh early in the third game but failed to take any advantage. Saurabh, with clever shot selection and attacking display, broke back in the sixth game.

Ronak made another attempt for a comeback when he again broke Saurabh in the ninth game but dropped his serve in the next. Saurabh then broke him in the 12th to win the set and the match.

” It was a tough match. I had won a close match with Ronak in Thailand three months ago. So I had a fair idea how he plays. Once I got agressive, he was defensive and that was the key for my victory, ” said Saurabh, who was also the part of junor Davis Cup team last year.
